Abdominal massage

This is a three part massage to relieve stagnations of many kinds in the abdomen. These stagnations can result in acid reflux, bloating, constipation, pain in the mid and lower back, and pressure on the bladder.  Other indications that digestive stagnation exists include jaw-clenching, TMJ, and trapped gas pains such as pain below the ribs and upper back and chest pain.

For part one we will massage around the navel like the numbers on a clock. Put your hands as shown in the video about two to three inches away from your navel in any direction to begin. Press into your abdomen with your fingers as much as is comfortable then move your fingers in a circle while continuing to press in. Then place your fingers in the next position as going around the navel like the numbers on a clock, pushing in as much as is comfortable and circling the fingers. You can go around the clock two times. You can do this standing up as I do in the video, or laying down which might be easier for some.

Then for the 2nd part place your hand such that the base of your thumb is right under your sternum, which is at the top of the abdomen. With the other hand push in to your abdomen and while still pushing in, slide your hand down to the navel. You can do this three or four times. This places your stomach down where it functions better and helps to avoid choking, difficulty swallowing, a hiatal hernia and acid reflux. Next, take a deep breath so as to expand your abdomen. This also pushes your diaphragm down where it belongs and improves breathing.

For the 3rd part, you take the tips of your fingers beside each other and place them just above the pubic bone which is at the very bottom of your abdomen. While pressing in, scoop up to your navel a few times. Then with the same hand position move to where your leg joins the torso. Press in and scoop up then go to the other side and do the same. This counteracts the weight of the abdomen which can prolapse and impairs elimination and/or causes incontinence. This pressure in the lower abdomen can impair circulation to the legs and result in high blood pressure and prostate/bladder issues. Finally tighten all your abdominal muscles as if pulling them back to your spine and kegel at the same time holding that for 10 to 15 seconds. Repeat a few times. This helps strengthen the muscles that hold up your organs in their proper place.
